Does Tik Tok Love Noodles as Much as Our Crew Do?

by Sandra Kyaw

TikTok has forever changed the way we consume content, especially cooking videos. Although the general Tik Tok audience are yearning for ‘homemade’ videos that show off something fun, in as relaxed a way as possible, we still want to be the best we can be when it comes to making signature dishes that are interesting and simple for our brands and any collaborations that they may be working on.

Running the School of Wok’s You tube channel is like having our own producer playground; it allows us to think on our feet and sometimes, if we have extra time at the end of a shoot, we love to challenge our chefs and crew and come up with off-the-cuff recipes to use up spare ingredients and get creative. With this particular recipe, we had miso, ramen, some pak choi and not much else, and so these finicky noodles ended up being a delicious last-minute dish that we produced for School of Wok’s Wok Wednesdays. The simplicity of the dish makes it perhaps better placed for a quick Tik Tok recipe, but either way are guaranteed to make your mouth water whatever the platform.

The hardest thing for the crew was coming up with a title for the recipe. After putting all our heads together, we settled on miso butter noodles with a hint of chili. Chef Jeremy doesn’t need much instruction after being presented with a dish title – he quickly went to work and combined softened butter, miso paste, chili oil, spring onions, and other garnishes into a food processor to make a lovely compound butter. The moment of silence (and the odd ‘oooh and ahhhh’) whilst the crew were watching through their camera monitors says it all. She was beautiful, and we knew it would do well with al dente ramen noodles, and sure to make our audience drool.

The moment the dripping butter was mixed in to the noodles with and topped with a piping hot fried egg (which was also basted in the miso butter for additional flavour) we had birthed a new and beautiful food creation. “This was a great idea” was the consensus. They were fantastic, and one of the most “MMmmmmm” inducing dishes we had eaten all afternoon. I highly suggest you give it a try once you get the chance.

The beauty of food is that there are only so many ways one can be creative, even with a limited number of ingredients and our number one priority here at Curious Crab is producing digestible content for all the brands we work with. That is why having a crew of enthusiastic, likeminded individuals who all share a passion for food and hate to waste even 1 strand of noodles and know the importance of a time constraint is thoroughly important to us!

If you throw anything at us, whether it be a mystery Masterchef style food bag, or simply needing us to film fast, aesthetic content to demonstrate the versatility of your own food products – we’re the right crew for you.
